I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Dear Hackney Wick,
we are writing to make you aware of a recent increase in phone snatch incidents in Wallis Road/East Bay Ln. these incidents typically involve offenders targeting individuals using there phones in public spaces, often approaching by foot, E bikes or mopeds before taking the phone and leaving the area.
Our team are aware of this situation and we our doing are patrols in the area to help reduce this crime happening and deal with each incident accordingly. We would like to provide some practical steps you can take to reduce the risk of phone theft.
- Stay alert to your surroundings when using your phone in public - avoid using your phone close to the edge of pavements or busy pathways - Keep your phone out of view and consider using hands free option when making calls E.g Iphones say '' Hey Siri Call....'' - Be extra care when in crowded areas and Train stations in peak hours.
If you witness a phone snatch or become a victim, Please report it as soon as possible. In an emergency or if a crime in progress call 999, for non-emergency reporting please contact us on met engage, 101 or you can do an online report.
If you have any information that may assist our investigations, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support
Kind regards
Hackney Wick Safer Neighbour Hood Team
